Conference Nijmegen 2017

In its fifth year of existence, Buma ROCKS! was present during metal festival FortaRock In The City on Saturday 27 May in Doornroosje in Nijmegen.

Buma ROCKS!, the international conference and showcase festival for loud music, aims to connect ambitious and upcoming acts in hard rock, metal and related genres to professionals from the rock business both from the Netherlands and abroad.

During FortaRock In The City Buma ROCKS! offered Heavy Chats, a matchmaking programme between artists and a number of hot shots from the heavy music business invited to the festival. They checked out the Dutch bands playing and were generally available to share some of their wisdom and exchange ideas.

Buma ROCKS! Heavy Chats speakers were: Lulu Davis, Roman Hödl, Jan-Martin Jensen, Becky Laverty, Gunnar Sauermann, Bindu De Knock, Enzo Marangelli, Jef Verheijen en Wilfried Damman.

More on them here.

Buma ROCKS! presented two well-visited Q&A's. The first one featured Metal Mike, in an interview with Waldo Volmer (owner of online zine Never Mind The Hype). Mike is the big man behind Aardschok, one of the world's longest running metal magazines (founded in 1980). For some decades now he has been running the radio programme and lately the internet radio channel of the same name as well. The second Q&A featured Periphery drummer Matt Halpern, one of metal's most prolific entrepreneurs, interviewed by Mark van Schaick of Buma ROCKS!. Matt is the founder of Bandhappy, The Entertainment Institute, and GetGood Drums, and an award-winning drum educator and clinician, speaker, and co-host of the Chocolate Croissants Podcast.

The Wheel Of Steel Rock Quiz drew a good crowd during FortaRock In The City, not in the least because Belgian DJ duo Goe Vur In Den Otto were presenting. Lots of laughs for the candidates and the audience, and some serious prizes: quiz winners took home the very first tickets to the freshly announced FortaRock 2018.
